A serene and very pleasant atmosphere has been created in the villages centering on Somsar Sri Ramakrishna Seva Mandira. Apart from daily pujas offered to Sri Sri Thakur which is being performed very religiously in the shrrine, Aratrik Bhajan of Sri Sri Ramakrishna is presented together with other devotional songs. Religious discourses are conducted and young men and women take part in large numbers. |

Special Pujas and Tithipujas
With due solemnity according to Vishuddha Siddhanta Almanac, tithipujas of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda are observed with Homa, Puja and Bhog following the guidelines set out by Ramakrishna Math, Belur.
Birthdays of Srimat Swami Brahmananda ji Maharaj and Srimat Swami Saradananda ji Maharaj are observed with due solemnity and reverence. On special occasions like Doljatra, Durga Puja, Janmashtami, Bengali New Years Day, etc., there are huge gatherings of devotees and arrangements are made for partaking prasad. The 4th December, being Inauguration Day of the Ashrama, special puja and ceremonial gatherings are arranged at the Ashrama premises every year, with morning processions, dance dramas and religious gatherings. |
Ramakrishna Sarada and Vivekananda Bhavaprachar
Somsar Sri Ramakrishna Seva Mandira is a member institution of Bhava Prachar Parishad nurtured by Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Belur. In order to spread the ideology, every evening, a discourse is carried out in the temple, apart from weekly study circle. At four designated points in the villages, groups of young men and women sit together every Saturday to conduct classes on 'Mayer Katha', 'Ramakrishna Kathamrita' and 'The Gita'. On 12th January every year, which is designated as National Youth Day, a daylong cultural feat is conducted every year in presence of young men and women of the village in the Ashrama premises. Recitations from the 'Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda', discourses, devotional songs, etc., mark the occasion to pay respect to Swami Vivekananda.

To commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Holy Mother Sarada Devi, an essay competition was organized on the life and teachings of the Holy Mother. Girl students of different schools in Bankura District participated in the competition which was held on 7th December, 2003, at a local Madrasa. All the participants received the book 'Sri Ma and Sri Sarada Math' as free gift. On 27th December, 2003,awards were presented by Assistant Secretary Rev. Pravrajika Atandraprana Mataji, of Sarada Math to all participants ranking 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the competition. Seva Mandira participated in the Kolkata Book Fair in February 2004, where books and 'Somsar Katha' - a quarterly review magazine published by Seva Mandira were sold to devotees.
After the advent of Seva Mandira, at Somsar village, it is very much gratifying to observe that private Ramakrishna Ashrama has sprouted in villages around like Indas, Role, Sahaspur, etc., which are being run by young men and women following ideals of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda. There too, religious activities are observed with due solemnity apart from other developmental services.
A Guest House has been built in the Ashram premises for devotees who would like to visit for a quiet stay and enjoy a spiritual retreat. Landscaping and beautification of the ponds in the Ashrama premises are being done for ensuring the proper ambience serenity to visitors.
