Somsar is a large village where most of the people are poor and out of this many are forced to live below
poverty line.
Like other areas of the State, the problem of unemployment has made its pangs felt at Somsar village too. Unemployment for both educated and uneducated youth adds to the problem of poverty.
A work plan for socio-economic development has also been taken up
by the Seva Mandir on urgent basis as the problem is serious and
deserves immediate attention.
Tailoring Training Programme :
Since women cannot normally move out of the village we have focussed greater
attention on them. For the purpose, a few poor women have been selected
and are being given special training in tailoring, cutting and embroidery
work on regular basis.
The training given with the assistance of Ramakrishna Mission,
Jana Shiksha Kendra, has already proved very
useful and popular. A number of women are now trained and taken to the profession of tailoring, thereby earning from their homes.
Self-employment Programme :
Voccational training in the areas of Transistor & Television repairing and Carpentary has been provided to a group of unemployed youth of the village.
In the Evaluation Camps, around 100 trainees participated to prove their skillsets and discuss their problems with evaluators. The trainees were motivated to start their own ventures. Today some of them who were unemployed previously have opened up shop and are earning their living.
We are carrying on the programme with the technical assistance and councelling of experts in this domain like the Ramakrishna Mission Samaj Sevak Sikshan
Mandir, Balur Math and Ramakrishna Mission Loka Siksha Parishad, Narendrapur.
