Nearly hundred years of the Revered Maharaj's life runs almost parallel to the hundred years of the life of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission. The pictorial biography of the Revered Maharaj is therefore almost a pictorial documentation of the Math and Mission itself.

Nevertheless we have been able to complete it by the blessings of the Revered Maharaj. The book may still have a few mistakes, a few unpardonable acts of omissions and commissions and we are entirely responsible for that and shall try to correct them infuture with the help of the devoted readers. That is our apology. The story of the Revered Maharaj's life is spread over the entire world. That great life has touched millions. Is it possible for us to know all of it?

Even those of us who have had the good fortune to know him closely, how much of Him have we understood? Therefore we cannot have the courage to claim that we have revealed him fully. The book only expresses our devotion, our offerings to that great soul. It is only an effort to tell the posterity that there was a man like this, that it is possible for a man to be like this. A man to whom the exceptional and the ordinary were the same, who was the same to all of them.

We are thankful to all who have helped in compiling this work through its different stages. If readers find inspiration from this great life, their efforts will be amply rewarded.
